My Torrance roots go back to when my grandparents arrived in 1941. I was born in the ORIGINAL Torrance Memorial Hospital, was on the El Camino College Swim Team and my first job was as a lifeguard at Vanderpool Swim School, the business my grandparents built and ran for 20 years.
Growing up I learned the importance of community.
My family will never forget the outpouring of compassion in 1994 when my uncle, Police Sergeant Tom Vanderpool, and his Captain Mike Tracy, were killed in the line of duty in Torrance.
I’m committed to giving back to the city that’s meant so much to me and my family. I’m involved in our community with the North Torrance Neighborhood Association, the League of Women Voters, the Torrance Refinery Action Alliance and I created the map for our city’s new council districts.
It’s been my honor to serve as a three-term Chair of the Torrance Social Services Commission, where I helped create our city's Homelessness Plan.
